Treatment

There are many ways to take care of yourself following a traumatic event. This section of the website provides information on the best ways to cope, how to seek help, and what types of treatment are available.

Self Care and Coping provides you with information on managing stress and what to expect following a traumatic event. Most people experience stress reactions (such as nightmares, flashbacks, difficulty sleeping, feeling detached) yet return to normal given a little time. However, for some people these reactions do not go away on their own, or may even get worse over time.

Because NCPTSD has emerged as the world's experts on PTSD and traumatic stress, many people ask if we provide direct treatment services. The National Center for PTSD does not provide direct clinical care or individual referrals. We do provide information on Where to Seek Help.
