Abstract:

This article presents findings of studies that examined poverty and patterns of employment among welfare recipients. It discusses the effects of low-wage employment on women's health, domestic violence among welfare recipients, and potential consequences resulting from regulations of the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families Program for women, teens, and female immigrants. It includes strategies for States to protect women's health interests under welfare reform and additional references.
