Current events and initiatives Quality Health Care for Culturally Diverse Populations Conference - Join CCHCP Minneapolis, MN - September 21-24, 2008 Join us at the Sixth National Conference on Quality Health Care for Culturally Diverse Populations to focus on culturally-competent healthcare and disparities reduction in the U.S. Ira SenGupta, Executive Director of CCHCP, will speak on "Enhancing recruitment and retention of diverse populations in cancer clinical trials: A cultural competency training program for Oncologist/Researchers" with our partners in the Education Network to Advance Cancer Clinical Trials (ENACCT). Ira will also be moderating multiple sessions. Anne Turner, NW Resource Center Director, will be joining a panel discussion titled "Reaching thousands: Using the internet to improve outreach, collaboration, and information dissemination". Results from CC Training Survey A collaboration between Diversity RX - Resources in Cross Cultural Health Care, Julia Puebla Fortier, Director and the NW Resource Center on CLAS and Health Disparities Developed to learn more about the needs of the professionals who purchase or deliver cultural competence training within hospitals, health care organizations, and other institutions. Some of the main areas explored include: - criteria for identifying and evaluating training options and models
- use of accredited vs. non‐accredited training
- preferences for various training formats
- opinions on national standard for cultural competence training elements

Upcoming CC Training of Trainers Institute Seattle, WA - October 20-24, 2008 Join Ira SenGupta, Executive Director of the Cross Cultural Health Care Program for a Cultural Competence Training of Trainers Institute in October. This institute provides an intensive 5-day training for organizations to meet mandates and recommendations while sharing tools for quality staff and provider cultural competency education programs focused on ending health disparities. Advanced Cultural Competency Training Workshops A new series of advanced training workshops has been developed by the Cross Cultural Health Care Program. Designed to be taught in an 8-hour format, the trainings focus on strategies to end health disparities and on achieving health equity for medically-underserved communities. Each of the advanced trainings is presented with short background information and learning objectives. A variety of interactive instructional methods will be utilized to deliver the content. Relevant case scenarios will assist in skills building. The recommended strategies will enhance effective cross cultural communications and the creation and sustaining of effective personal and professional partnerships for health, social and human services.
