Program Summary
The TCF Program/Chief Business Office (CBO) internship meets identified short and long-range operational needs of the CBO. These internships are intended to provide qualified and selected entry-level employees with a two-year program in a VA facility that will prepare them for specialized managerial positions at VA. Interns have the opportunity to develop their professional skills through the guidance of well-qualified preceptors. The preceptor mentors the intern to professionally prepare him or her for the future challenges in various career field discipline areas, including:

  • Revenue
  • Eligibility
  • Revenue cycle billing and coding collection process
  • Utilization review
  • Purchased care
  • Fee and member services

Program Objectives
This program is intended to provide a productive opportunity to share learning experiences within the internship locality, gain a productive educational knowledge, and give interns the experience that will enable them to develop an understanding of the interactions of business managers within the VA network. It allows interns to receive rotational training experience in different areas of the Business Office, through various functions to include:

  • Site visits and on-site training at HEC, HAC, and HRC
  • Participation on national committees
  • Attendance at training conferences
  • Detailed rotations to work on specific projects
  • Working knowledge of operational guides related to revenue, purchased care, and member services
  • Conference networking with VHA CBO, CBI, CFO, HIM at the national level and various elements of the Revenue Office

Qualifications:
The ability and willingness to relocate is a requirement for selection as a TCF Program intern. If relocation is necessary for permanent placement, VA pays for moving expenses. Applicants must be U.S. citizens.
