Title: NRC Government Information Locator Service (GILS)

Originator: U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Office of Information Resources Management, Policy, Planning, and Acquisitions Branch

Abstract: The GILS database contains all U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) GILS records. The database serves as the repository of the files which are used on a quarterly basis to refresh the publicly accessible NRC GILS database made available via the agency Internet Home Page. The database contains three mandated record types: 1) locators for Information Dissemination Products (books, maps, publications); 2) locators for Automated Information Systems (and Electronic Bulletin Boards); and 3) a single aggregate locator for Privacy Act Systems of Records.

Purpose: The GILS database was developed in response to OMB Bulletin 95-01, dated December 7, 1994, which requires each agency to develop and make publicly available an information locator service for its publicly available information products. The NRC GILS also satisfies a similar mandate within the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995.

Agency Program: Not Applicable
Availability: GILS is available via the Internet by accessing the USNRC HomePage (see GILS USNRC033 and Product Distributors).
