Suicide Bomber Mitigation Training Program (SBMTP)

This program is designed for law enforcement officers and agents who would be involved in security of people and assets, need to prevent a suicide bomber attack, and may actually encounter a suicide bomber. The course consists of lecture, tactical shooting, and intensive practical exercises involving encounters with a suicide bomber.

How You Will Benefit

The attendee will learn the motivations behind the suicide bombings and the methodologies of the bombers and how to use security measures to prevent, deter, and detect a suicide bomber. They will be able to physically respond to an attempted suicide bombing, know how to mitigate property damage, and manage the aftermath of a suicide bombing.

Instructors

Instructors in the Suicide Bomber Mitigation Training Program are current and former Federal law enforcement officers with substantial experience as criminal investigators, uniformed police officers and/or bomb technicians with such agencies as the U.S. Army, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing and the U.S. Air Force Office of Special Investigations.

Prerequisites for Attendance

Applicants must be active, sworn law enforcement officers or agents who perform duties directly related to the subject matter.

National Integration Center (NIC) (formerly the Office of Grants and Training)

The Suicide Bomber Mitigation Training Program (SBMTP) has been approved by the National Integration Center (NIC) (formerly Office of Grants and Training) and is added to the list of Eligible Federal Training Courses. For more information check with your State Homeland Security Office or the NIC.

Additional Information

Travel

  • Official travel days are Sunday and Friday-after 2:30 p.m.

Special Equipment Needs

  • Students should bring their own service weapon and magazine, utility uniforms, and duty gear (leather gear). If you don’t bring in your service weapon FLETC will provide one for you.
