The U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) will hold a public hearing in connection with its general factfinding investigation concerning Probable Economic Effects of the Reduction or Elimination of U.S. Tariffs on Tuesday, June 15, 1999. The hearing will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the Main Hearing Room, ITC Building, 500 E Street SW, Washington, DC.
The ITC, an independent, nonpartisan, factfinding federal agency, is conducting the investigation at the request of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR). The Commission will submit its report, which will be confidential, to the USTR by November 17, 1999.

ITC factfinding investigations may cover any trade- or tariff-related topic. They are generally conducted at the request of the U.S. Trade Representative, the U.S. Senate Committee on Finance, or the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Ways and Means; the Commission may also conduct investigations on its own motion. ITC factfinding reports compile and analyze information related to the subject of the investigation; however, they do not draw conclusions or make recommendations.
