News Release 99-056

MEDIA ADVISORY

The United States International Trade Commission (ITC) today announced that it will be closed on Friday, April 23, 1999.

Filing deadlines for any filings that were due on or before 5:15 p.m. E.D.T. on Friday, April 23, 1999, have been extended to 5:15 p.m. on Monday, April 26, 1999.

All agency activities scheduled for April 23, 1999, have been rescheduled. Interested individuals can obtain updated information from the ITC Internet site (www.usitc.gov) under the "This Week" section.

Washington will host NATO's 50th Anniversary events beginning that day. To accommodate security and traffic concerns associated with the NATO activities, the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) announced that numerous executive branch agencies located in a specified area of the District of Columbia will be closed. The ITC is an independent agency that is located just outside of the area designated by OPM. The ITC Chairman decided that out of concern for the safety and welfare of ITC employees, both in their commute to work and the potential workday atmosphere within the District of Columbia that day, and to facilitate the smooth operation of the NATO Summit, the agency will join those closing on Friday, April 23, 1999. It will re-open on Monday, April 26, 1999.
