Industry, Trade, and Technology Review (ITTR) contains articles originating from research and analysis conducted by International Trade Commission (ITC) staff as part of its responsibilities to provide advice and technical information on industry and trade issues. The ITTR provides analysis of important issues and insights into the global position of U.S. industries, the technological competitiveness of the United States, and implications of trade and policy developments.

The ITTR is a publication of the Office of Industries. The opinions and conclusions it contains are those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the views of the Commission or of any individual Commissioner.

The current issue (June 1998) includes the following articles:

• China's Evolving Automotive Industry and Market -- In 1994, the Chinese government issued development policies for the automotive industry that were intended to restructure the industry in China and help meet optimistic future forecasts for domestic sales and production of motor vehicles. This article discusses the current state of the Chinese automotive market and describes factors affecting imports, market access, and foreign participation in the Chinese manufacturing sector.

• Canadian Involvement in Mexico's Maquiladora Industry -- Since implementation of the North American Free Trade Agreement in January 1994, the number of Canadian production sharing (maquiladora) operations in Mexico has almost tripled. This article examines the factors influencing the rapid growth of Canadian participation in maquiladoras and the experiences of these Canadian firms.

In addition, the publication includes an appendix charting key performance indicators for the steel, automobile, aluminum, flat glass, and services industries.
