USPTO's New Alexandria Headquarters

The USPTO's Office of Space Acquisition is coordinating the consolidation of the agency's operations from its present configuration in 18 separate buildings in Arlington into a consolidated headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia. The five linked buildings that make up USPTO's new facility contain approximately two million square feet of office and related space and are about three miles from USPTO's current site in Crystal City. Occupancy of the new headquarters is expected to begin in late 2003 and to be completed by early 2005.

The consolidation is a critical step to achieving and maintaining an agency that is quality focused, highly productive, and responsive to the needs of its customers. This 21st Century facility complements the agency's mission in a multitude of ways. USPTO's new headquarters is designed to facilitate optimum performance from the state-of-the-art technology the agency will use for full electronic processing of patent and trademark applications. Modern buildings and equipment and employee-friendly services, including a child care center, multipurpose meeting facilities, and fitness center, give USPTO the opportunity to attract and retain a highly skilled workforce.

In addition to space dedicated to the agency's core functions, USPTO's new Alexandria complex will have a host of public amenities, including the popular patent and trademark museum, a full-service cafeteria and Dulany Gardens, a landscaped two-acre park located at the center of the facility, featuring benches, brick walkways, and a water fountain.
