Receive Deferment Information
Bulletin
During their final year of medical or osteopathic school,
scholarship recipients will be sent a
Deferment
Information Bulletin (PDF) (132 KB) describing the
policies and procedures for approving deferments and a Deferment
Request Form to enable them to request approval from the
NHSC Scholarship Program for their residency plans. |

Application for Scholarship Extension |
|
Fulfilling the Service Commitment
NHSC Scholarship Program recipients incur 1 year of obligated service
for each school year of support regardless of whether the Scholars
received full or partial support during that school year. The minimum
service commitment is 2 years; the maximum is 4 years. Recipients
are obligated to provide full-time clinical primary health care services
in high need, high-priority HPSAs to which the Secretary (or designee)
will assign them.
