Uniform Data System

The National Health Service Corps Uniform Data System (NHSC UDS) is a data collection system designed for NHSC sites excluding those that receive grant support from the Bureau of Primary Health Care. These data help the NHSC satisfy reporting requirements mandated by Congress and provide both the NHSC and its partners with information regarding the services provided, number of users, staffing, production, finances, and managed care enrollment at the various sites.

The NHSC UDS began in calendar year 1998. Sites which do not receive grant support from the Bureau of Primary Health Care and which have an NHSC obligated clinician in place at any point between April 1 and September 30 are to file an NHSC UDS report. This year the due date for UDS reports was extended to March 20, 2009. The submission of reports will be monitored, data will be edited and entered into a data base, and external reports will be prepared. Once the UDS data are compiled, aggregate data will be made available so that individual sites can compare their operations to statewide and national averages. Individual site data are kept confidential.

Further information

The implementation of the NHSC UDS is supported by a training program each year. If you have not been contacted to attend a training session or would like technical assistance, or call the UDS support line at 888-459-1080 or send an e-mail to udshelp@nhscdata.net. Training will be offered each year. In addition, view the training modules with slides and an audio track for the introductory sections and each table of the UDS.
