Projects & Plans
Find information on proposed projects (Environmental
Assessments, Decision Notices and other NEPA documents) for water
restoration, habitat improvement, recreation sites, timber sales,
roads and more.
The Flathead National Forest is involved in many programs
and activities that are summarized on the Forest's Quarterly Schedule
of Proposed Actions (SOPA).
The Bitterroot, Lolo, and Flathead National Forests
are revising their land management plans to reflect new scientific
information as well as natural and social changes that have accumulated
since the original plans were prepared, in the 1980s.
On November 9, 2005, the Forest Service published
a final travel management regulation, governing use of OHVs and
other motor vehicles on National Forest System lands. The final
rule requires individual national forests to designate those roads,
trails, and areas open to motor vehicle use.
Four new over snow motor vehicle maps are available
that display areas open for winter motorized recreation on the forest.
The new maps replace the previous pink and white forest snowmobile
maps released in January 2002.
Snowmobilers are reminded that the Great Bear, Bob Marshall and
Mission Mountains Wilderness areas and the Jewel Basin Hiking area
are non-motorized areas. Snowmobile travel in these areas is not
permitted.
