Management Consultation Program
Health Services Research and Development (HSR&D) developed this program as an in-house consultation service for VA policy makers and senior managers. Management Consultation helps clients invent and answer questions pertaining to clinical and administrative activities, costs, and organizational processes. Management Consultation projects are initiated and paid for by the client.
Management Consultation employs very precise research methods to answer specific programmatic and operational questions quickly in a very short time frame. Consequently, the program is the most flexible and rapid funding mechanism of all HSR&D programs. Management Consultation staff assist the client in formulating a strategy and timeline to address their specific issue or question, and then devise a team of VA investigators to create a design for the research. The program has the role of being a coordinator and/or liaison between the investigators and the client to ensure that all deliverables and products are understandable to policy makers and managers, who may be non-researchers.
The program has responded to requests from the Office of the Under Secretary for Health, VISN offices, and other VHA Central Office policy makers. Some of our recent projects have included VA community-based outpatient clinics and the Study of VA Researchers.
