Two Disaster Recovery Centers to Suspend Operations

BATON ROUGE, La. -- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Louisiana Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness are closing two Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs). The Jennings DRC will shut down at the close of business on Friday, Jan. 6 at 5 p.m. and the Boutte DRC will close at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14.
"These DRCs have served thousands of individuals in the last few months. As relief and recovery efforts continue in Louisiana, closing these DRCs will enable us to focus our resources to assist the maximum number of people," said Federal Coordinating Officer Scott Wells. Since opening on Sept.20, the DRC in St. Charles Parish has been visited 18,566 times. The DRC in Jefferson Davis Parish received 5,537 visits since opening Oct. 9.
Disaster victims in need of assistance can still visit any open DRC in the state. FEMA operates 31 DRCs in Louisiana. The nearest DRC for St. Charles Parish residents is:
