Head and Neck Tissue Arrays

Overview

The  NIDCR is pleased to announce the Head and Neck Tissue Array (HNTA) Initiative. This initiative is a collaborative effort between the Oral and Pharyngeal Cancer Branch, NIDCR, the Tissue Array Research Program (TARP), National Cancer Institute (NCI) and several contributing centers in 8 countries, namely the United States, China, Thailand, Argentina, Mexico, South Africa, India, and Japan.  Each center has contributed a number of paraffin blocks from patients bearing head and neck squamous cell carcinomas, mainly oral cancer, as well as several other control tissues from non-neoplastic and neoplastic diseases.  A tissue microarray has been developed using samples from these sources. Investigators at both research intense and non-intense institutions, as well as foreign and domestic laboratories may request paraffin sections of the microarray. Although applicants are not required to be current NIDCR grantees, a high priority will be given to those who currently have an NIDCR grant studying head and neck carcinogenesis. Tissue microarray slides can be requested for exploratory, developmental as well as established research projects. Up to 4 array paraffin sections will be provided at no cost to a single investigator, but shipping charges will be covered by the investigator requesting the samples.  HNTAs and any related reagents are provided to the research community for research purposes only and their use for commercial purposes is prohibited.
