Research Interests

My interest is to characterize the molecular mechanisms involved in signal transduction in mast cells. These cells play an important role in many inflammatory and immunological reactions by releasing an array of mediators that include preformed and newly generated molecules, and cytokines.

In our studies we utilize cellular and molecular techniques in investigations with the rat basophilic leukemia cells and bone marrow derived mast cells. We have demonstrated that the protein tyrosine kinase Syk is essential for the immune receptor induced signaling and studies have functionally dissected the role of Syk in these signaling pathways. Present studies are characterizing further these signaling pathways.
