Finding Dental Care

NIDCR leads the nation in conducting and supporting research to improve oral health. As a research institution, NIDCR does not provide referrals or dental care for the general public. The resources below, however, may help you find the care you need.

Where to Find Reduced-Cost Dental Treatment

For information about reduced-cost dental treatment, contact your local dental school. Dental schools often have clinics that allow dental students to gain experience treating patients while providing care at a reduced cost. Experienced, licensed dentists closely supervise the students.

The Bureau of Primary Health Care, part of the Health Resources and Services Administration, has federally funded community health centers that provide dental care.

You may also wish to contact your state or local health department to find out what services are offered in your area.

For more information, see NIDCR's Finding Low Cost Dental Care fact sheet.

How to Find a Referral or Second Opinion

NIDCR does not provide referrals to private practitioners. Contact your state or local dental society for the names of dental practitioners in your area.

Dental schools may be a good source for second opinions. Contact the dental school closest to you for a consultation.
