Looking for an Extraordinary Practice Opportunity?

The Indian Health Service (IHS) offers nurses extraordinary opportunities for providing comprehensive care in culturally rich communities. More than 2,500 IHS nurses play a leadership role in clinics, hospitals, and public outreach programs nationwide. They are vital to the health of individuals and entire communities.

Most IHS positions are in rural settings, where there is great demand for generalists as well as for specialists in hospital settings.

The ideal IHS candidate must be able to handle a wide range of medical cases. For example, a morning's patient roster might include an infant with Reactive Airway Disease, an adult diabetic, and a new mother needing basic education in child care.

An IHS nurse may choose to stay for an extended period of time in one location or periodically transfer to other locations to learn about other cultures and natural environments.
