CONVENTIONAL WEAPONS
Strengthening the Core Mission
Battlefield Technologies
Los Alamos National Laboratory applies
its expertise in defense science and technology to the broad spectrum
of DOD requirements from basic research to integrated, fielded systems.
The DOD conventional defense programs complement and strengthen
Los Alamos' core mission of reducing the nuclear danger. They support
defense preparedness through collaborations with the DOD Science and
Technology community and with industry, and develop dual-use
technologies for defense and civilian applications.
The role of Los Alamos in conventional defense has been to
- support DOD users in technology development and application to their
needs;
- rapidly develop prototypes to provide proof of concept for advanced
technologies;
- apply Laboratory resources to research, development, testing, evaluation,
and independent assessment; and
- participate in precompetitive partnerships and technology transfer with the DOD science
and technology community and with industry.
