Lisa
Tonrey, a program consultant at HRSA’s Dallas Field Office,
has just been elected the 2002-2003 President-elect of the American
Pharmaceutical Association (APhA), the national professional
society of pharmacists. Tonrey will automatically become APhA’s
president on April 1, 2003, at the conclusion of the 2003 APhA
Annual Meeting in New Orleans.
Tonrey is a licensed pharmacist-clinician with a background
in health administration who works primarily with Bureau of
Primary Health Care and HIV/AIDS Bureau programs on state-based
teams covering Louisiana and Texas. She is the Field Office
representative in the agency’s collaborative efforts with
the Environmental Protection Agency, the Agency for Toxic
Substances and Disease Registry, the Office of the Regional
Health Administrator and the state of Louisiana to conduct
a needs assessment and address statewide environmental health
issues.
APhA's 50,000 members include practicing pharmacists, pharmaceutical
scientists, pharmacy students, pharmacy technicians, and others
interested in advancing the profession. The association is
a leader in providing professional information and education
for pharmacists and an advocate for improved health through
the provision of pharmaceutical care.
