GROUNDFISH (LINGCOD & ROCKFISH)
RECREATIONAL FISHING REGULATIONS
As part of the effort to rebuild overfished stocks and reduce harvest for other
depleted stocks, recreational fishers continue to face new restrictions. Each state
proposes measures to regulate recreational catch in its waters. The regulations differ
from state to state, depending on conditions in each state, but are expected to result in
similar catch reductions in each state. The states and the Pacific Fishery Management
Council consider the tradeoffs between shortened seasons, reduced bag limits, size limits,
and area restrictions. In addition, the Council considers how to balance the impacts
between recreational and commercial sectors while achieving the necessary catch
reductions.
To ensure you are aware of the latest changes to rockfish angling regulations be sure
to consult the appropriate state fish and game regulations. State regulation updates are
often available at the web sites listed below.
