Sea Kayak South Carolina

Charleston's Oldest Guide Service and Most Respected Outfitter, Coastal Expeditions takes you kayak touring in South Carolina. We began offering kayak tours in Charleston South Carolina, based in Mount Pleasant in 1992. At that time it was rare to see a kayak of any kind in Charleston and we were the lone outfitter. Over the last 17 years we have witnessed a renaissance of sorts in the kayaking industry. There are more people both local and on Charleston vacations taking advantage of the myriad of kayak touring opportunities in the Low Country. As a result of this cultural evolution there are more tour providers than ever in the Charleston area. If you are planning a kayak outing near Charleston SC. whether a half day trip, full day trip, over night adventure, kayak rentals, or instruction; I urge you to look towards Coastal Expeditions as your service provider. Our years of experience, earned reputation and dedication to excellent service certainly will make a difference.

Our emphasis on quality and safety has given us a reputation as Coastal South Carolina's premiere outfitter. Our guides are trained Sea Kayak Instructors and certified lifeguards. We are also certified in First Aid, Wilderness First Aid, CPR and AED. Our mission is conservation and environmental stewardship through immersion and experiential environmental education; therefore, all of our guides are also dedicated Naturalists who continue to seek to better understand and interpret the connections of the natural world around us. A guided kayak tour with Coastal Expeditions includes interpretation of the Human history, Natural history, Geology, and the flora and fauna connections as they relate to you as a paddler.

When you join us, you join a group of naturalists who believe kayaking is the least intrusive way to learn about the coastal waters. You are valued as a team member in our adventure, gaining an increased appreciation for our aquatic eco systems and our part in their protection. Our kayak tours are easy enough for all skill levels and we specialize in creating customized private group tours for families, school groups, churches, and corporations, including team building programming.

Estuaries are the most bio diversified ecosystem on the planet. South Carolina is blessed with more estuary/barrier island habitat than any other state in the nation, including the longest stretch of contiguously protected coastline on the Eastern seaboard. This rich environment is where fresh and saltwater intermingle and is host to an abundant and diverse array of flora and fauna. Whether paddling in the black water creeks of a Cypress Swamp in Francis Marion National Forest, old canals of abandoned rice fields in the ACE Basin National Wildlife Refuge or the coastal waters of our barrier islands in and around Cape Romain National Wildlife refuge your adventure with Coastal Expeditions will be an unforgettable highlight of your stay in the Low Country.

In an effort to increase our accessibility to our grass roots local nature lovers as well as accommodate the Charleston SC area vacation family we have 5 different locations to serve you: Shem Creek in Mt. Pleasant, the Isle of Palms Marina on the Isle of Palms, Folly Beach at Crosby's Seafood on Folly Road, the Bull Island Ferry in Awendaw, and Carolina Heritage with the tree houses on the Edisto River in Canadys SC. "The kayak linked me to the scene in a way no other boat ever has...as we paddled lightly and quietly with the invisible current, a world that seemed placid from afar came to life around us."
- New York Times Travel Section, March 10, 1996, page 1, lead article on Coastal Expeditions
