Clarissa receives many emails from
educators and students of all ages requesting information about
varioius topics regarding the Tlingit and Northwest Coast culture.
To address many of the inquiries, Clarissa's website has begun to
include historical references to Chilkat weaving, button-robes and
the Northwest Coast tribes. We encourage you to stay tuned and re-visit
the website!
Alaskan Native artist and Chilkat/Ravenstail weaver Clarissa
Hudson began creating her Northwest Coast Indian art in
1974, and is now represented in collections throughout the U.S.
Clarissa works mainly in fabric art, based on traditional Alaskan
Native ceremonial regalia from Southeast Alaska, the home of her
tribe, the Tlingit Indians. These works include Chilkat Blankets
and Weavings, Ravenstail Robes and Aprons, and Button Blanket Robes
and Murals. Her works range from highly traditional pieces intended
for ceremonial use, including copies of existing robes and regalia,
to original contemporary art pieces that typically find homes in
private collections and museums.
She also creates award-winning paintings and collages, mixed media
art, and Northwest Coast inspired sculptures and carvings, often
in collaboration with her husband,
artist Bill Hudson.
