The Department of Census and Statistics (DCS) is the central statistical agency in Sri Lanka, which is responsible for collection, compilation, analysis and dissemination of all statistical data needed for planning, policy formulation and to monitor the progress of various development activities and also to measure the impact of various governmental policies. It is also charged with the function of providing trained professional staff to all government agencies undertaking various statistical activities.
