The Office of Science & Technology supports International Science by:

  • Serving as the NOAA Fisheries lead for all bilateral fishery science cooperation.
  • Coordinating with the NOAA Fisheries Science Board on international issues requiring science overview and input.
  • Serving as NOAA Fisheries lead for the North Pacific Science Organization, the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources, the Arctic Council, the Program for the Conservation of Arctic Flora and Fauna, the Working Group for the Circumpolar Protected Area Network, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, and the science-related issues of specialized meetings and consultations on living marine resources at the United Nations.
  • Arranging and coordinating meetings of, and short-term exchanges to NOAA Fisheries HQ and field for scientists and foreign visitors with an interest in science issues.
  • Coordinating and meeting regularly with NOAA Fisheries representatives to the Scientific Committees of Global Marine Resource Organizations and Regional Fishery Management Organizations supported by NOAA Fisheries to share policy goals and information.
  • Coordinating with the NOAA Fisheries Antarctic Ecosystem Research Group on Antarctic Marine Living Resources Directed Research Program support for the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources
  • Coordinating with the Offices of Protected Resources and Habitat Conservation on international efforts to protect living marine resources, biodiversity and the marine habitat.
  • Liaising with the National Ocean Service on international efforts addressing international coastal, estuarine and marine sanctuaries issues.
  • Liaising with NOAA Research on Arctic Research issues.
  • Liaising with the NOAA International Office on Arctic Council issues, corals matrix initiatives and science-related cross cutting international efforts and initiatives.
