Summary

ENGINEER 2 - The successful applicant will work as an engineer within the Engineering Services Division and will be a member of an engineering team deployed to a facility at the Laboratory. This position provides the following engineering services: configuration management support; implementation of the authorization basis; technical baseline maintenance; monitoring, tracking, and trending of major systems; definition of maintenance requirements; troubleshooting; root cause analysis; preparation of detailed corrective maintenance instructions for complex or critical operations; preparation of engineered equivalency analysis; provides field implementation of the Conduct of Engineering (COE) Program.

Required Skills

Demonstrated technical experience in design engineering, system engineering, or operations at a nuclear or industrial facility; demonstrated experience applying engineering practices and principles. Demonstrated experience in engineering including controls, commissioning, troubleshooting, and technical baseline maintenance. Demonstrated working knowledge of DOE standards applicable to facility design, operation, and maintenance is preferred. Demonstrated ability to communicate well, both written and verbally; proficiency with personal computers. Demonstrated experience working with industry standards. Safety and security are primary responsibilities for all Laboratory employees. Takes steps to stop work if unsafe conditions exist or security is compromised. Adheres to engineering policies, programs, procedures and practices. Researches, assembles, and/or evaluates information or data regarding industry practices or applicable regulatory changes affecting engineering policies or programs; recommends sound, practical solutions to complex issues. Demonstrates full understanding of specialized area, plus working knowledge of other related fields. Applies standard engineering principles, theories, concepts and techniques within discipline to resolve a wide range of issues in a creative way. Provides resolutions to a diverse range of complex problems where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Performs conventional structural design and analysis. Contributes to the development of organizational goals and objectives. Works under limited direction; receives general instruction on new assignments. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Determines approaches to solutions, plans schedule and arranges own activities in accomplishing objectives. Performs design, installation and commissioning of commercial, industrial and safety-related systems. Utilizes engineering technology tools including CAD, CNC, CAE, etc., programs and develops software tools at varying levels of complexity. Assists with process and instrumentations control. Prepares documents, studies, and reports associated with facility lifecycles and space requirements as directed. Provides conventional and innovative engineering construction and project support. Performs demand and planned maintenance and performs predictive maintenance. Work is evaluated on completion to ensure objectives have been met. Promotes a mutually respectful work environment that is free from discrimination and harassment.

Education

BS degree in engineering.

Notes To Applicants

Active or reinstatable Q-clearance; otherwise the ability to obtain and maintain a Q-clearance, which normally requires US Citizenship.
