Summary
Seeking highly creative and motivated developer/programmer to join professional Web design team in developing Web sites and applications for Laboratory customers. Works closely with the Lab's scientific managerial staff, and team members to elicit information; target audience; research, plan, and develop original solutions based on objectives and target audience. Job involves the development and delivery of content management, data collection, service request, and Web file management applications. Works primarily with server-side technologies (Apache, PHP, Perl, MySQL) and must also be versed in client-side technologies such as JavaScript, CSS, etc. Must have demonstrated knowledge of object oriented programming principles and application design methods. Designs and develops relational databases for Web projects. Manages and coordinates all aspects of large, long-range Web application development efforts. Presents initial proposals and reports on progress to clients and supervisors. Assembles and directs internal resources and coordinates with other IT personnel/management groups to ensure goals are met. Coordinates work with others involved in the Web publication effort and works as an effective member of a team including Web designers, editors, compositors, illustrators, and photographers. Ensures that AA/EEO and ES&H standards are reflected in Laboratory Web publications.
Required Skills
Demonstrated experience developing in a LAMP environment (Linux, Apache, Perl/PHP, MySQL or PosgreSQL). Demonstrated experience with application/database design methodology and tools (UML, Visio, etc.). Demonstrated experience with an IDE (Zend Studio, Eclipse, etc.). Demonstrated experience with file management on UNIX/Linux servers. Demonstrated experience solving cross-browser and cross-platform issues. Must be experienced on MAC & PC. Project management experience demonstrated through the direction and responsibility for numerous complex Web projects involving a number of components-support personnel, budget, and schedule. Ability to work independently with clients who are often members of management. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Ability to use professional judgment and skills to resolve difficult technical problems unique to each project. Demonstrated skills in constructive communication, conflict resolution, and tactful interactions with customers, team members, and managers. Demonstrated mentoring abilities in educating junior members of staff and clients. Willingness to work occasional weekends or extra hours to meet customer deadlines. This position requires a Q access authorization. Applicants must have the ability to obtain a Q clearance, which normally requires U.S. citizenship.
Desired Skills
Demonstrated Java programming experience is a big plus. Demonstrated Oracle experience is a plus. Demonstrated experience using layout, design, color, and typography principles. Demonstrated web authoring and graphics applications. Knowledge of Flash a plus.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Information Systems or related field or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Advanced degree preferred.
