Summary
This position is based in Carlsbad, NM working for the LANL Carlsbad Operations Office (EES-12). Primary responsibilities will include functioning as a TRUPACT II operator, and/or a certified Leak Tester. The successful candidate will be a member of LANL-CB TRUPACT-II mobile loading team, supporting field operations, and will assist the National Certification Team (NCT) in accelerating shipments of transuranic waste from Small Quantity Sites to the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP), as well as optimizing loading activities for shipments from Large Quantity Generator Sites. The position will require performance under incredible schedule pressure, and in audit environments. The successful candidate will periodically be responsible for assisting the Transportation Certification Official (TCO)/crew leader in resolving problems associated with the conduct of technical reviews of characterization data collected from a broad range of waste characterization techniques to determine whether the waste meets the WIPP Waste Acceptance Criteria, and TRAMPAC requirements. The position will require moderate to heavy domestic travel.
Required Skills
Ability to complete and maintain all required training and certifications for CCP TRUPACT-II Operations and/or Level II Helium Leak Testing.
Experience operating in a quality environment that includes a formal Quality Assurance (QA) plan and associated documentation.
Experience in effective communications, both verbal and written, with internal and external peers, customers, and management.
The ability to perform job functions in high pressure situations.
Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE "Q" Clearance
Desired Skills
The ability to assist in working and communicating with DOE-Carlsbad Field Office QA staff and their contractors as well as generators of TRU waste
Operational experience in an audit environment.
Operations background in a formal conduct of operations environment, and/or in a program which implements Integrated Safety Management Systems concepts.
Experience working in a DOE environment and complying with DOE Orders that pertain to storage, handling, transportation and disposal of hazardous and/or radioactive waste.
Experience shipping Contact Handled (CH) transuranic waste.
Knowledge and/or experience relative to RH waste transportation and/or the RH 72-B cask operations.
Knowledge regarding the design and/or operations of the TRUPACT-III shipping container and/or 10-160B containers.
General working knowledge regarding national DOE TRU waste and/or material handling policies such as the WIPP Waste Acceptance Criteria (WAC), WIPP Waste Analysis Plan (WAP), TRUPACT-II Safety Analysis Report (SARP), and Carlsbad Field Office (CBFO) Quality Assurance Program Document.
Current HMPT and/or Radworker training/certifications a plus.
Education
This position requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of relevant experience and education.
