CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

EndNote: Managing Your Search Results
Use EndNote® to import and organize references, insert references in manuscripts, and create bibliographies.

EndNote Web: Using EndNote from Anywhere
Use EndNote® Web to import and organize references on any computer with an Internet connection. EndNote Web is a reference management tool that provides many features of traditional EndNote®. It is available for free to NIH staff by setting up an account through Web of Science®, a subscription database provided by the NIH Library.

PubMed: Understanding the Basics
Use PubMed® to find articles on your research topic in biomedical and related journals. Search by subject words, author, and journal; apply language, age, and publication type limits; and identify search terms with MeSH®, the Medical Subject Headings® Database. PubMed is the National Library of Medicine's premier bibliographic database of journal article citations and abstracts covering the fields of medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, and preclinical sciences.

Reference Manager: Managing Your Search Results
Import and organize references, insert references in manuscripts, and create bibliographies. Similar to the EndNote® session but for Reference Manager® users.

Scopus: Identifying Who's Citing Whom
Search by topic, store search requests, create email alerts, and identify which authors are being cited. Scopus™ is an interdisciplinary database that indexes thousands of journals in the social sciences, psychology, business, management, the physical sciences, engineering, the earth and environmental sciences, and the life and health sciences.

Using PubMed to Search for the Evidence
This class will focus on searching the PubMed® database for evidence-based medicine. Following a brief demonstration, you will practice searching for the evidence using techniques from the simple addition of Evidence Based Medicine to your search strategy and limiting your retrieval to Systematic Reviews to the more sophisticated searching by Clinical Study Category. You will also create a new My NCBI account, save citations to your own personal collection, and set up an automatic email alert.

Web of Science: Mining the Literature
Conduct cited reference searches and search by subject, author, and journal title in Science Citation Index Expanded™ and Social Sciences Citation Index®.

Web Search: Thinking Beyond Google
Go beyond the standard web search tools and learn to search more efficiently; access the invisible web; evaluate websites; use image and non-text search engines; and search for scholarly information, news, people, and blogs.
