Under the guidance of the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA), the County Agriculture Departments use ground applications of carbaryl, imidacloprid, and cyfluthrin to control glassy-winged sharpshooter in several counties. The Environmental Monitoring Branch of the Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) monitors selected treatments to provide information on the concentrations of the insecticide in various matrices that may include surface water, irrigation runoff, storm runoff, ground water, soil, air, foliage, fruits and vegetables. Additionally, we may monitor dissipation of the insecticide in foliage, soil and surface water. Toxicity of surface water samples to aquatic organisms may also be determined.
