Nursing: Grant Programs for Schools of Nursing

Basic Nurse Education

Nurse Education, Practice and Retention funds academic and continuing education projects that strengthen the nursing workforce and improve nurse retention and quality of care.

Nursing Workforce Diversity funds projects that increase nursing education opportunities for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds (including racial and ethnic minorities underrepresented among registered nurses) through student stipends, pre-entry preparation and retention activities in nursing schools, pre-nursing programs and elementary and secondary schools.

Comprehensive Geriatric Education funds training, curriculum development, faculty development and continuing education for nursing personnel who care for the elderly.

Advanced Nurse Education

Advanced Education Nursing funds projects that enhance advanced nursing education and practice in master's and doctoral programs, combined RN/master's degree programs, post-nursing master's certificate programs, or, in the case of nurse midwives, certificate programs in existence as of November 12, 1998.

Advanced Education Nursing Traineeship supports individuals preparing to be nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, nurse midwives, nurse anesthetists, nurse educators, nurse administrators, public health nurses, and other nurse specialists requiring advanced education.

Nurse Faculty

Nurse Faculty Loan Program funds schools of nursing to establish and operate a loan fund to assist registered nurses complete their education to become nursing faculty.  Loan recipients may cancel 85 percent of the loan over four years in return for serving full-time as faculty in any accredited school of nursing.

Faculty Development: Integrated Technology into Nursing Education and Practice funds nursing collaboratives for faculty development in the use of information and other technologies.
