This site provides the names of all current state poets
laureate of the United States. It also includes
a history of the laureateship in each state, as well the District of Columbia, and attempts
to provide a comprehensive listing of all prior state
poets laureate.
The information on the following pages was compiled by consulting the
Web sites and staff of many organizations, including state
arts councils, state
libraries, and the National Federation
of State Poetry Societies. Much of the historical information on
this site was compiled by David Kresh, the former Reference Specialist
in Poetry at the Library of Congress.
