Weeds
Introduction
Welcome to Weed Control information for the Bay of Plenty. Designed to help you recognise and control weeds, this manual contains only weeds that occur in this area and only weeds which are a threat to environmental values or which we are obliged to control by statute.

Some weeds are a minimal threat to mainland areas but must be watched for on islands. Others are abundant in one place and rare in another. Yet others are new to some reserves and may be kept out of others by quick control action. The manual is designed to provide you with information to enable you to not only identify which weed you are dealing with but also to select the best control method available.

(The following paragraphs applies only to the printed version and not to the ONLINE version under Weeds Index ). The terrestial weed pages are assembled in alphabetic order of their common names, as listed in the first index, with aquatic weeds in a separate section near the back. Indices of scientific and family names are included.

The loose leaf format is specially chosen to allow for change. New species may be added or existing ones removed. The idea is that you will add your own information as you discover it, then send that information through the system to the editors, then we will send out updates for the manual (and update these web-pages). Please feel free to pick holes in the system and find any mistakes we have made.

This weed information is derived from a similar book produced by Northland Conservancy, Department of Conservation, now shared with and added to by staff of the Auckland Regional Council and Auckland Conservancy, Department of Conservation. We thank all these organisations and people for their assistance. These groups will all benefit from the changes and updates you propose as we continue to share the battle to stem the weed invasion.

This weeds section was originally compiled and created by Norbert Haley and has been modified by Environment Bay of Plenty to fit the new website layout. We acknowledge the time and effort spent by Norbert to collate this information and we are grateful he has provided it for our use.

If you want further information on weeds please go to the pest plant section.
