Issue No. 8
The purpose of the Quick-2 Mailing List is to provide up-to-date information about Quick-2 software, tutorials, and other related topics pertinent to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).
This month we will use the Quick-2 program to complete a HEC-2 run. For this analysis we will use survey data for one cross section from a previous exercise. Once all cross-section data is entered we will run HEC-2 and then look at the output using Quick-2. Note that the HEC-2 program was added to your computer when you installed Quick-2.
We will use Quick-2 to do the following:
The Results of the Survey are Given Below:

To Determine the BFE Using Quick-2 Normal Depth-Irregular Channel Method:
When all the data is entered, the 'Compute' button will have a box around the word 'Compute.' To compute the BFE, either click on 'Compute' or hit 'Enter'. The results are displayed at the bottom of the screen in the 'Output' section. The computed BFE (located in the WS Elev box) is 531.07 ft.
Now you are ready to run HEC-2, first go to 'File' and 'Save/Run as HEC-2 File'.
A screen will appear titled 'Create a File to Run using HEC-2', you will need to name this file. Please note that you must use a different name than your Quick-2 file name or the run will not work. For example, if your Quick-2 file is named 'Jandemo.qk2.' name the HEC-2 file 'Jandemo.dat.', then click on 'Save'.
A black screen will now appear and will be titled 'Finished-h-2', when this screen appears you will know that the Hec-2 run is complete. You can close this screen and return to Quick-2 program. Go to 'View' and 'HEC-2 Output'. This will be your complete HEC-2 file for the cross-section entered into Quick-2. To view the entire output go to 'File' and 'Print' to have a hard copy of the data. Using the HEC-2 feature of Quick-2 can be beneficial to those who use HEC-2 as their primary program. You can use your HEC-2 data file (i.e., Jandemo.dat) in HEC-2 or it can be imported into HEC-RAS.
