The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) announces the inactivation of its Small Grants (R03) Program effective immediately. Specifically, the Institute will not accept, review, or fund R03 applications for the November 1, 2001 receipt date and beyond. However, small research grant applications that were submitted on or prior to the July 1, 2001, deadline will still be reviewed for possible funding.

The NHLBI Small Grants Program was intended to provide limited support in time and amount for research projects designed to analyze preexisting research data generated by clinical trials, population research, and demonstration and education grants.

Research investigators interested in obtaining funds for data analysis that heretofore would have been supported through the R03 mechanism are encouraged to contact the Institute to discuss currently available options, among which is the NHLBI Innovative Research Grant Program, (described at the following Web address: http://grants1.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PA-03-015.html).
