The International Policy Institute for Counter-Terrorism (ICT), located in Herzlia, Israel, provides a profile for the terrorist organization, Sendero Luminoso (SL), which is based in Peru. This guerilla organization has as its goal to destroy Peruvian institutions and replace them with peasant revolutionary regime. The ICT discusses the history and terrorist activities of the SL.

This pathfinder is designed as a starting point to aid the beginning researcher in finding information on Sendero Luminoso contained on the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill campus and in the Davis Library in particular. It is a guide to important sources; including, but not limited to, books, journals, reference works, government documents and electronic resources. Although purposely limited to sources in English to appeal to a wider audience, some "must see" sources in Spanish are given special mention. This pathfinder is no way exhaustive and will undoubtly lead the user to a variety of sources not mentioned here.

This Marxist-Leninist revolutionary movement wants to end imperialism in Peru and establish a Marxist regime. The ICT discusses the history, ideology and strategy, leadership, and terrorist activities of the MRTA.
