Summary

Postdoctoral position in Experimental Neutrino Physics: The Weak Interactions Team in Physics Division (P-23) is inviting applicants for a post-doctoral appointment working on a search for double beta decay; a rare nuclear decay that can provide insight into the particle-antiparticle nature of the neutrino and the absolute mass scale of the neutrino. The successful candidate will contribute to the Team's efforts on the MAJORANA double-beta decay project. The Team is focused on constructing an array of Ge detectors at the Sanford Underground Science and Engineering Laboratory at Homestake and studies to better understand the background model of a large Ge-based experiment. Within program constraints, the possibility also exists to participate in future efforts to measure the low energy, solar pp-neutrinos or in the search for Dark Matter.

Required Skills

The successful candidate must have an experimental background in one or more of the following areas: Nuclear physics, particle physics, simulation of nuclear-particle physics experiments, low background counting, data acquisition.

Education

A Ph.D. in physics completed within the last five years or soon to be completed is required.

Notes To Applicants

For further technical information, please contact Dr. Steve Elliott at elliotts@lanl.gov or (505) 665-0068. Please send a cover letter addressing how you meet the required skills, a C.V. and the names of 3 references when applying for the position. A current C.V. with the following categories is preferred: Educational background, degree dates, GPA with scale; Experience; Competitive honors; Relevant extracurricular activities; Invited presentations; Grants; Patents; Publications.

Pre-Employment Drug Test

The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a pre-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Government Conflict of Interest

To ensure that you and LANL avoid any potential conflicts of interest, all current/former Government Officials must read and respond, if applicable, to the LANL Applicant Disclosure Form.
