Summary
Postdoctoral Positions in Enzyme Dynamics and Protein Folding. The Physical Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopy Group of the Chemistry Division (C-PCS) is seeking outstanding candidates for postdoctoral positions to investigate protein dynamics using unique spectroscopic approaches. These positions will support NIH funded projects to study (1) fast events in protein folding and (2) the role of protein dynamics in enzymatic catalysis. We use ultrafast laser spectroscopy, isotope edited IR spectroscopy and fluorescence spectroscopy to probe the coupling of protein motions to enzymatic catalysis and to probe protein folding dynamics with residue specific resolution. We also employ unique reaction initiation methods, including laser pH-jumps and ultrafast microfluidic mixing coupled with spectroscopic (FTIR and fluorescence) imaging. Finally, we use high level MD simulations to guide and interpret the experiments. These positions are available immediately.
Required Skills
A strong background in lasers and optical spectroscopy (some combination of fluorescence, IR, Raman and CD) and their application to biophysical problems is required. Other requirements include a strong publication record; the ability to work creatively and independently; and excellent written and oral communication skills.
Desired Skills
Experience in protein preparation and biochemical analysis is desirable. Proficiency in computer programming (LabView, Igor, Matlab) for computer-controlled measurement and data analysis is also desirable.
Education
A Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry, Biophysical Chemistry, or equivalent completed within the last five years or soon to be completed is required.
Notes To Applicants
For further technical inquiries, contact Dr. Brian Dyer at bdyer@lanl.gov.
Pre-Employment Drug Test
The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a pre-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
Government Conflict of Interest
To ensure that you and LANL avoid any potential conflicts of interest, all current/former Government Officials must read and respond, if applicable, to the LANL Applicant Disclosure Form.
