Summary
Postdoctoral Position in Physical Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopy Group of the Chemistry Division (C-PCS) is seeking an outstanding candidate to join our existing project using a variety of microscopic platforms to investigate the natural processes used by fungal species to degrade lignocellulose so that more cost effective biofuel processes can be discovered. The position will utilize our state of the art microscopy laboratory which includes confocal and multiphoton fluorescence, CARS, Raman, SERS, SEM, FTIR, and XRF microscopes. The goal of the project is to understand strategies of White Rot Fungi in the degradation of lignin so that more efficient biofuel conversion strategies can be investigated. This microscopic work will be combined with extensive diffraction and mass spectroscopy efforts as well as multi-scale modeling to provide a total picture of these processes. This work is performed in collaboration with the USDA Forest Products Laboratory in Madison, WI.
Required Skills
A strong background and extensive hands-on experience in optical techniques, preferably microscopy. Demonstrated experience in custom-development of instrumentation. Strong publication record. The ability to work creatively and independently. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Desired Skills
Expertise in Raman or Biological imaging. Experience in hyperspectral spectroscopy and data analysis. Proficiency in computer programming (LabView primarily, but also Matlab or Visual Basic) for computer-controlled experimentation.
Education
A Ph.D. completed within the last five years or soon to be completed is required.
