Summary

Postdoctoral positions are available in the area of colloid and contaminant interaction and transport in geological porous and fractured media. The successful candidate(s) will be part of the Radionuclide Geochemistry Team of Los Alamos National Laboratory's Earth and Environmental Sciences (EES) Division and are expected to support the team's efforts in investigating colloid transport, colloid-facilitated transport, and general contaminant transport in saturated and unsaturated geologic media under different environmental conditions. The team especially encourages applicants with experience/interest in behavior and transport of actinides in the environment. This research appointment requires simultaneous efforts in understanding the interaction of contaminants with colloids and mineral grains and the transport of colloids and contaminants in saturated and unsaturated geologic media under varied hydrodynamic, chemical, and physical conditions, including transient conditions. The successful candidate(s) will take advantage of state-of-the-art laboratory and computing facilities unique to LANL in performing this type of research and will have unique interactions with other research programs within the EES Division, including: theoretical, computational, and applied investigations in many areas of Atmospheric and Ocean Sciences, Ecology, Geochemistry / Geomaterials, Geology, Geophysics / Seismology, Hydrology, and National Security Science / Technology. Please visit the EES Division website at http://www.ees.lanl.gov/ for information on current projects. Ample opportunities are available to collaborate with other Laboratory Divisions that specialize in related disciplines, such as bioscience, chemistry, materials, and theoretical physics.

Required Skills

Applicants must have strong experimental and theoretical skills in at least two of the following areas-- colloid interaction and transport; contaminant (preferably radionuclide) interaction and transport; actinide chemistry; biogeochemistry.

Desired Skills

Hands-on experience in conducting batch sorption and desorption experiments, bench-scale column transport experiments, interpretations of experimental data, and colloid and radionuclide characterization is highly desirable.

Education

Ph.D. in Engineering or Physical, Chemical, or Environmental Sciences or relevant fields completed within the last five years or soon to be completed is required.

Notes To Applicants

Please contact Dr. Amr Abdel-Fattah at amr2450@lanl.gov or (505) 665-2339 or Dr. Robert C. Roback at Roback@lanl.gov (505) 667-8916 for further information.

Pre-Employment Drug Test

The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a pre-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Government Conflict of Interest

To ensure that you and LANL avoid any potential conflicts of interest, all current/former Government Officials must read and respond, if applicable, to the LANL Applicant Disclosure Form.
