Summary

Postdoctoral Position in Neutron Scattering and Spallation Physics: The Manuel Lujan Jr. Neutron Scattering Center (LANSCE-12) is seeking outstanding postdoctoral candidates to engage in neutron scattering studies of complex materials and in neutron spallation physics. We seek candidates (for up to seven positions starting immediately) whose credentials are strong in condensed matter physics, materials science, or spallation physics.

Problems currently studied at the Lujan Center include texture and strain in structural materials, catalysis, proteins, single-crystal spectroscopy, soft matter physics, spin-polarized neutron scattering and magnetic materials, magnetic dots and anti-dots, block copolymer materials, colloids, geomaterials, coupled moderators, premoderators, and self-assembled materials. In addition to experiments at the Lujan Center (Los Alamos), other facilities to be visited may include NIST (Gaithersburg), HMI (Berlin), IPNS (Argonne), and ILL (Grenoble). The Center has three new spectrometers and several upgraded spectrometers that take advantage of the upgraded LANSCE source, which is the most intense pulsed neutron source in the world. These positions offer an excellent opportunity to do science and to establish a broad range of collaborative contacts.

The ability to work creatively and independently is important, and the successful candidate will be expected to travel occasionally.

Desired Skills

Previous experience with x-ray or neutron scattering is desirable.

Education

A Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a closely related field completed within the last five years or soon to be completed is required.

Notes To Applicants

For further technical information, contact Alan Hurd at ajhurd@lanl.gov.

Pre-Employment Drug Test

The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a pre-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Government Conflict of Interest

To ensure that you and LANL avoid any potential conflicts of interest, all current/former Government Officials must read and respond, if applicable, to the LANL Applicant Disclosure Form.
