Summary

The Hydrodynamic Experiments (HX) Division is responsible for executing and diagnosing tests of explosive assemblies in support of Defense Programs and Threat Reduction missions. The HX-1 Dual Axis Radiographic Hydrodynamic Test (DARHT) Operations Group is responsible for developing and maintaining operational readiness and efficiencies at the DARHT facility. The HX-1 Group Leader reports to the HX Division Leader and serves as a member of the HX Division management team, providing leadership and line management in developing the required level of Formality of Operations as applied to the DARHT facility. This position will partner with the leadership team to develop and execute division and laboratory technical strategies, including modernization of facilities, while increasing hydrodynamic testing efficiency. The successful candidate will promote a work environment suitable to efficiently resolve crosscutting technical issues, and will be an advocate for HX Division¿s technical accomplishments and capabilities. The successful candidate will manage accelerator operations, DDC operations, budget, and personnel issues; will serve as the first line manager for HX-1; and will demonstrate commitment to a diverse work force and AA/EEO policies. As a member of the Division management team, the GL is responsible for promoting safety, security, and quality in all operations; mentoring and developing personnel; promoting teamwork within the division and across the Laboratory; and demonstrating the behaviors that promote a positive work environment.

REQUIRED SKILLS 1. Demonstrated technical knowledge and record of achievement in executing large-scale weapons experiments or operating experimental facilities that support large-scale weapons experiments (e.g. PHERMEX, DARHT, etc.). 2. Demonstrated technical knowledge and record of achievement in implementing and maintaining conduct of operations, maintenance, training and engineering. 3. Demonstrated leadership and management ability in the execution of technical projects, as well as the ability to motivate others to identify and successfully address technical challenges. 4. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills and the ability to assimilate, evaluate, and communicate technical information. 5. Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including the ability to work well with all levels of personnel and customers to foster cooperation and collaboration in a team environment. 6. Demonstrated success in modeling professionalism and excellence in adhering to high technical standards and behavior. 7. Demonstrated commitment to Laboratory goals in the areas of health and safety of workers and the public, environmental protection, safeguards and security management, workforce diversity, and employee development. 8. Ability to obtain a Q clearance. DESIRED SKILLS 1. Significant experience in more than one of the group¿s mission areas including DARHT Axis I and II operation, DDC operation, firing point and vessel operation, or Area I & II experiment execution. 2. Formal management training or demonstrated record of professional enrichment. 3. Previous experience with Laboratory administrative policies including performance and salary management activities. 4. Working knowledge or prior experience in the coordination of multi-Laboratory programs with Los Alamos, Lawrence Livermore, and/or Sandia National Laboratories, encompassing stockpile stewardship issues.
