Career Development Awards

Training Grants from NIEHS

The purpose of Career Development Awards(http://www.niehs.nih.gov/careers/research/trainingfunded/career/index.cfm) is to provide support and protected time for an intense, career development experience in the environmental health sciences. Applications must contain both a research proposal and a structured career development plan.

Fellowships

Ruth L. Kirschstein Individual National Research Service Award (NRSA) Fellowships(http://www.niehs.nih.gov/careers/research/trainingfunded/fellowships/index.cfm) provide an annual stipend, an allowance for tuition and fees, and an institutional research allowance. Applicants must identify a sponsoring institution and an individual who will serve as a sponsor (mentor or supervisor) and who will supervise the training and research experience.

Institutional Research Training

The NRSA program supports predoctoral training, postdoctoral training, and short-term research training experiences for medical students at selected universities across the United States. Institutional NRSA training grants(http://www.niehs.nih.gov/careers/research/trainingfunded/irt/index.cfm) are designed to allow the director of the program to select the trainees and to develop a curriculum of study and research experiences necessary to provide high quality research training.

Loan Repayment Program

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Extramural Loan Repayment Programs(http://www.niehs.nih.gov/careers/research/trainingfunded/loan.cfm) are designed to attract health professionals to careers in clinical, pediatric, health disparities, or contraceptive and infertility research.

Supplements

NIEHS supports a variety of supplement(http://www.niehs.nih.gov/careers/research/trainingfunded/supplements/index.cfm) awards to help with improving diversity in research, to respond to unforeseen events, or to take advantage of emerging technologies.
