Course on Data Management for HAZUS-MH

FEMA has completed a major update of the Comprehensive Data Management for HAZUS-MH course that integrates the powerful new data integration tools available in HAZUS-MH MR2.

The course focuses on the HAZUS-MH inventory. It includes an in-depth discussion of the methodologies that were used to develop and compile the HAZUS-MH provided inventory and identifies the issues associated with using that inventory for purposes other than that those for which it is intended. A significant portion of the course is devoted to exploring a variety of strategies and techniques for updating both the site specific and aggregate inventory with local data.

The course is recommended for GIS analysts, database administrators, and other professionals who are responsible for integrating local data into the HAZUS-MH database structure. It will help students effectively prepare for their own data integration projects by identifying those inventory elements that have the most impact on the estimation of losses for flood, earthquake, and hurricane analysis. Numerous hands-on exercises are completed during the course.

Comprehensive Data Management for HAZUS-MH represents a major milestone in the HAZUS-MH education program. The curriculum now includes eight courses that range from introductory to advanced. Courses enable students to efficiently integrate their own local data into HAZUS-MH which significantly improves the performance and outputs of the model.
