FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

STATEN ISLAND—The New York Power Authority (NYPA) is a sponsor of Staten Island Borough President James P. Molinaro’s 2006 free summer events series.

These events, produced by the non-profit Staten Island Family Events, Inc., attract 50,000 visitors annually and take place in Staten Island’s parks and beach facilities, including the renovated South Beach boardwalk, Ocean Breeze and Midland Beach shore fronts. The programs allow families to come together to enjoy a free evening of fireworks and musical performances.

“The New York Power Authority is proud to provide the support necessary to continue offering these outstanding events for the Staten Island community,” said Joseph Leary, NYPA’s director of public and governmental affairs for Southeastern New York.  “Our sponsorship is in keeping with our long record of working to be a good neighbor on Staten Island.”

The Power Authority, the nation’s largest state-owned electric utility, supplies low-cost electricity to municipal buildings, schools, public hospitals and other public facilities on Staten Island and throughout New York City, and to businesses and non-profit organizations that maintain thousands of jobs in the city.. It has also completed energy efficiency projects at nearly 1,200 public facilities in the five boroughs, savings taxpayers nearly $56 million a year and cutting annual emissions of greenhouse gases by hundreds of thousands of tons.
