FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ALBANY – The New York Power Authority (NYPA) will
oversee the seasonal installation of buoys and flashboards at
Crescent and Vischer Ferry dams, located on the Mohawk River in the
Towns of Niskayuna, Clifton Park and Colonie starting Sunday, April
30. The Barge Canal opens Friday, April 28.
Staff members from NYPA’s Blenheim-Gilboa Pumped
Storage Project will direct the work, which will be conducted by a
maintenance crew from the New York State Canal Corporation’s
Waterford Section Office.
Water levels at Vischer Ferry will begin to drop
during the evening hours on Sunday, April 30, in anticipation of the
installation of the flashboards and buoys at Vischer Ferry Dam D, E
& F beginning Monday, May 1.
After completing the work at Vischer Ferry, the
maintenance crew will relocate to Crescent Dam on Wednesday, May 3,
dropping the pond level below crest in order to complete
installation of the flashboards and fish deterrent systems there.
Barring any complications or inclement weather the
installations will be completed by Thursday, May 4.
Any questions regarding this work should be
directed to Carol Rodino, New York Power Authority Albany Office at
518/433-6736.
