NOTE TO EDITOR:

The February installment of “This Week in NYPA History” is now available on the New York Power Authority’s Web site (www.nypa.gov).  Please click “Celebrating Our 75th Anniversary—This Week in NYPA History” on the home page to access this listing.  The January compilation is also included.

The Power Authority, the nation’s largest state-owned electric utility, is marking its 75th anniversary this year.  Gov. Franklin D. Roosevelt signed legislation creating the Power Authority on April 27, 1931, at his Hyde Park home.

As part of the anniversary observance, we will issue summaries of major events in Power Authority history for each month throughout the year.  The events will be broken down by week to facilitate use by newspapers on a continual or intermittent basis.  Listings for subsequent months will be posted at the start of each month throughout 2006.

Please feel free to publish the listings in full or to select items that you believe would be of particular interest to your readers.  If you wish additional information on individual items, or assistance in developing them into stories, please contact me by phone or e-mail.

Thank you,

Steve Shoenholz
