Objective:

The goal of this RFA is to create multidisciplinary teams to expand and facilitate genetic and epigenetic research to define the role of dietary bioactive components in cancer prevention.

Description:

This RFA will create new multidisciplinary teams to resolve issues about the physiological significance of bioactive food components as regulators of genetic and epigenetic processes involved with cancer prevention. The establishment of these large-scale collaborative research and pilot projects will simultaneously create programs of excellence that will serve as models for future nutrition and genomic programs. The approach must focus on innovative preclinical and clinical approaches to resolve the role of specific dietary components in modifying genetic pathways linked with cancer incidence and tumor behavior. It is anticipated these findings will assist in clarifying the role of nutrigenomics, nutrigenetic, and metabolomics in cancer prevention. Information gained in these collaborative and integrative research programs will not only help define the specific role that specific dietary components have on genetic pathways but should allow for its translation into tailored intervention strategies.
