December 9, 2003 Remarks by President Bush and Premier Wen Jiabao in Arrival Ceremony The South Grounds During the official visit of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, President Bush and Secretary of State Colin Powell both referenced freedom of religion. President Bush stated, "the growth of economic freedom in China provides reason to hope that social, political and religious freedoms will grow there as well." In his remarks, Secretary of State Colin Powell said the human spirit craves more than the material and craves things such as the "inalienable right" to "worship freely."
